Very sad about Udo. I was always intrigued by his name. I think it is Swedish. His brother, Marty, was a good guy, too. Sad that they are gone so soon. It sounds like he had a good life.

Christi,
I remember him talking a lot about where his family was from.I believe it was Lithuania or Latvia. I am "thinking" he was Latvian.
Udo was a great guy.
Jerry Gleim
I remember Udo talking about his Latvian ancestry. Udo grew up next door to LSE classmate Kurt Kuhl and we all hung out together quite a bit in high school along with Steve Turner.

I too was intrigued by his name. I did a presentation at Mayo on "Balkan Nephritis" as a Resident Fellow in Nephrology. These people and their country were "blasted" with Hitlers Uranium project via water contamination at the end of WWII from Allied bombing of Hitler's bomb projects with Uranium P-36--a weird isotope that hung around for generations and most likely invaded the genomes of ancestors of the area.
This all leads to early deaths from crazy tumors and heart disease. I hope this was not his cause of death.

Yes, Udo was Latvian. Our Moms were friends and his family were very proud of their Latvian heritage. He met his wife, Aggie who is Scottish, while he was in the military. Spending time with them was so much fun! I tried to talk Udo into coming to a class reunion several times but he always had an excuse! RIP, my dear friend!
Kurt Kuhl
Udo was a great lifetime friend and will be missed! As next door neighbors, we grew up together with our birthdays seperated by less than a month. They were a great family and even taught me how to speak a little Latvian and how to enjoy Pierogi - a delicious latvian mini sandwich. Rest in peace my friiend!

Thanks for the education on Udo.
I guessed Sweden because Uppsala is an area there🤷♀️

I love you! ❤️
Was it because Uppsala and Udo Upeslacis sounded alike? Sort of like Latvia and Lithuania? I am laughing!
Jerry sent a joke today for which I am feeling extremely gullible!
I feel only slightly consoled by this as you are a highly intelligent and articulate woman!
I do have cousins in Uppsala and a lot of Swedish family which is probably the only reason I would have known other than I do remember Udo talking so proudly about his roots! (That began with an L! )😜ha!
Udo touched so many of us ! ❤️

Ann. Have you read any books by Asa Larsen? Very gritty, but very Swedish. It sounds like a neat place.
