In Memory

Joyce Powell (Renne)

Joyce Ann Renne was born on March 27th, 1951 in Lincoln, NE. Her parents were Jack and Opal Powell. Joyce had (3) bothers and (1) sister. She grew up in Lincoln and attended Southeast High School. She met Darrel Renne while in high school, they got married after they graduated and Darrel enlisted in the United States Navy. Joyce moved to San Diego, CA. while he was in the service.

They eventually moved back to Lincoln. Joyce became a LPN and worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital for 38 yrs. in their nursery and NICU. She loved working there and loved all the babies she helped take care of. Joyce had (2) children, Sherri and Shawn. Joyce took care of her brother Jackie and her mom thru out many years of her life. Her son, Shawn was also born with challenging health issues, everyday she focused on taking care of him as a top priority as well. Joyce took care of a lot of people, and unfortunately did not always make time for herself or her needs.

When she had her free time, she absolutely loved to travel specially to places outside of our mainland. She loved going to Mexico, Hawaii, Las Vegas and Florida and on various road trips and cruises. Joyce also loved being home, hanging with her immediate family and friends. Joyce loved to eat at different restaurants each weekend and she always went to see a movie afterwards for a night out. Every weekend she included her brother, mom and son for their outings.

Joyce’s daughter, Sherri, is married to Richard and they have a daughter named Emily and a son named Jayden. They live in Lincoln and Joyce enjoyed spending time with them as much as possible. She also loved animals. Sherri and her family breed and raised Shih-tzu puppies, which she adored and became close too. Shawn lives with Sherri and her family and they take care of him on a daily basis.

Unfortunately, health issues caught up to Joyce and her husband, Darrel. They had to sell their house and move into assisted living. Darrel, unfortunately passed away (2) years ago, she was devastated after losing him. Her health took a turn for the worst after Darrel passed away and she had to move again into a more specialized care facility.

Coronavirus affected us all in many different ways, it was so hard for her to be isolated in her room and not be around family or leave the facility for fun outings. Once, Coronavirus was controlled and restrictions were lifted, we were all looking forward to being together and continuing to enjoy family gatherings and get-togethers.

Then her health, really turned for the worst, she was hospitalized for the last several weeks of her life. She was miserable and just wanted to get better. The lord decided it was her time and she passed away on Friday, June 18th, 2021 at Bryan/LGH East Hospital.

Sincerely,
Her Family
