The last time I saw Jesse it was a couple of years ago and I was in B & R, or Russ's at 17th and Washington.  It was Memorial Day weekend and Jesse came in on his wheel chair and every body in the place seemed to know him .  He came through calling people by name, smiling telling a couple a jokes.  He stopped and talked to one person in particular then I saw him hold hands and praying with that person.  After that he started singing the Star Spangled Banner.  Everyone stopped to listen and when he was done  everyone clapped.  So long Jesse.

I was shocked and saddened by his passing when Jesse's name came across the news. I had not seen him for many (maybe 15 or more?) years when he and his wife visited my home church in Lincoln. I think they had just moved back to Lincoln and were church shopping, as they only came the one Sunday.

He and I talked briefly. I don't remember much about it, except he seemed to me to have had a hard life somehow. At least that's what I remember from his face. May he rest in peace.

Hi, Chris, I'm also gratified to know about the wonderful encounter you had with Jesse at the grocery store. Good to know of better days!  Wishing his family peace in his passing.

Thanks, Pam
