Lois Yelkin (Dietsch)

Lois A. Dietsch was born on September 28, 1952, in Wichita, KS, to Edwin Theodore and Iva Lee (Mulder) Yelkin and passed away on February 14, 2018, in Seward at the age of 65 years, 4 months and 17 days. Lois grew up in Lincoln, where she attended and graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School in the Class of 1970. She went on to attend and graduated in 1975 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics.

On April 16, 1977, Lois was united in marriage to Jim Dietsch at the Sheridan Lutheran Church in Lincoln. The couple moved to Seward in August of 1977, where Lois began her teaching career at the Seward Middle School until she retired in 2012, when the new middle school opened. Lois was a board member of the Lutheran Student Center at UNL for several years. She was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church in Seward.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Gertrude Dietsch.

She is survived by her husband Jim, Seward; three children, Emily and husband Joe Sykora, Omaha, Adam Dietsch and fiancé Molly Brownson, Omaha, Jana Dietsch, Seward; grandsons, Kory and Nathan Sykora; sisters, Sue Yelkin, Sally Yelkin and partner Amy Spomer, all of Minneapolis; brother, Michael Yelkin, Lincoln; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Lois.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Zabka Funeral Home, Seward. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Hillcrest Evangelical Free Church with Pastors Adam White and Rob Corum officiating. Private family burial will be at the Panama Cemetery in Panama, Nebraska. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Student Center at UNL or donor’s choice.
